Hordle Walhampton Scout Group

Friday, January 30th, 2009

ajt_4867After months of planning, lots of meetings, much paper and many emails, the Hordle Walhampton Scout group was launched on Tuesday evening. The Beaver colony with 22 members had their inaugural meeting in the Pre-Prep.They heard the story of the little beaver and made cut-out beavers holding the beaver promise. Next week they will be learning, amongst other things, how to put up a tent.

The cubs, not quite so numerous, met in the Sports Hall. They were told about the history of the scout movement and how the badge system works. They were also told about the series of action packed district events that they could look forward to in the coming months eg go karting, wide games in the forest and camping.

The feedback was extremely positive. However, to ensure the continuing success of the group, more parental assistance is needed. It would be fantastic if we could tempt a few more mums and dads to help. Any volunteers, please have a word with David Whately-Smith.

Bill’s New Frock – Year 6 Play

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

“When I woke up one morning, something really strange had happened. Oh, my room looked exactly the same. But when I looked in the mirror, I didn’t look exactly the same at all. I’d turned into a girl!”

So begins Bill’s strange day. Anne Fine examines, with humour and compassion, the way in which we all unconsciously treat boys and girls differently. The burning question is – will Bill have to change his name to Belle, or will the nightmare stop? Come and join Year Six in the PAC at 19.00 on Thursday 29th January to find out.

Tudor Day

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

On Monday the PAC was awash with the sounds of music and battle as Ben Lindsey-Clark from the Treehouse Theatre paid Years 4 and 5 another visit.

The children were split into four groups and each group performed a scene from the Tudor dynasty incorporating the Battle of Bosworth, the loves and hates of Henry VIII, the boy king Edward, a high pitched Mary Tudor and the Spanish Armada.

Everybody worked hard in the morning during the preparation workshops which ensured that the afternoon performance went smoothly. It was a fantastic day and all concerned had lots of fun whilst at the same time learning lots about the Tudors.
