After School Sewing Club

A small group of enthusiastic senior girls are enjoying the very new activity – How To Use The Sewing Machine. Initially we learned how to thread the machine and how tosew a variety of stitches. A sampler was good practice, a small, stuffed Valentine heart was made in February and we are now in the process of making cushions. This project enables us to sew in straight lines – much easier than negotiating the sewing machine around the curves of the heart. For an added challenge we have decided to hand quilt the central block of the cushion cover, and so far, we are pleased with the results. More photos and information about this activity can be seen on the display board in the Front Hall. We are very grateful to the HWPA for buying these three sewing machines. They will also be useful for work done in the Art department. Learning to sew is a life skill for boys and girls and I hope more will sign up.
