Hampshire has sent out to schools some new guidelines as part of improving the health of our children. State schools will now have to meet these key standards in the dining room.
As food is always dear to our hearts at HW, we have decided to trial these new ideas for the first half of this term and see if we can improve our eating habits between meals.
Some of our new snacks at Short Break have created a lot of interest and provoked a lot of discussion.
During our morning breaks children are being offered a variety of fruits and vegetables, which have replaced the traditional homemade biscuit. In the afternoons bread based snacks are on offer: these include fruit buns and sandwiches. As we are trying to change the children’s habits and replace the sugary biscuit type snack with a healthier option, it seems only fair that staff should follow the same regime.
