Blue Peter Shoe Biz Appeal The idea was to collect old shoes and recycle them in order to raise funds to help orphans in Malawi. Blue Peter's objective was to collect one million pairs of shoes, and UNICEF will then set up a Children's Corner where children, mainly orphans, are cared for by adults and given healthy food to eat and a safe place to play during the day. At Hordle Walhampton, we put a box in the Front Hall and hoped for a few shoes. As it turned out, there were many more old shoes than we had anticipated and we ended up with a total of 250 pairs... or as Blue Peter puts it: 2500 toes! March 2007 |
