Townsend Warner History Prize ... Again!

.

From 800 participants from Prep schools around the country, two Hordle Walhamptonians did well enough in Paper I of the Townsend Warner History Prize to make it through to Paper II. The boys had to answer 5 separate essay questions which included pretending to be Napoleon and writing about his conquests of Europe, and the importance of Magna Carta.

For the second year in a row, one of them did particularly well, coming 45th and producing a combined score of 127. With a year to go, this is a fantastic achievement and bodes well for next year.

Here is a selection of questions from Paper I that the candidates had to answer for you to try out your historical knowledge:

1-     What was the last pitched battle fought on British soil on April 16th 1746?

2-     Which famous event occurred on October 21st 1805?

3-     Which American president was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in 1865?

4-     With what do you associate Captain Blood?

5-     Which was the English King who was killed while hunting in the New Forest?

 Good luck !
