Special Educational Needs

Geese in formation fly seven times faster than when alone.

Through close partnership between home and school we aim to provide the best possible provision to meet the intellectual, physical, social and personal needs of all of the children within our care. At some point in their educational career children may experience a special educational need (SEN). Often these needs can be met within the mainstream classroom, however, on occasion, additional support may be required.

Children with SEN may have difficulty with one or more of the following:

· Schoolwork,

· Reading, writing and number work or understanding information,

· Expressing themselves or understanding what others are saying,

· Making friends or relating to adults,

· Behaving properly in school,

· Organising themselves,

· Some kind of sensory or physical need, which may affect them in school.

SEN support in this department is coordinated by Claire Holly, the Special Needs Coordinator (SENCo) for Early Years.

The SENCo ensures early identification and intervention for children with SEN in order to address and meet their needs as quickly and appropriately as possible. We aim to deliver an inclusive curriculum and SEN support ensures that all of the children have access to the entire curriculum for all of the time.

We value the support of other expert agencies such as speech therapists or educational psychologists and work together with them to provide a multi-agency approach whenever necessary.

Together we can help all of our children to feel valued and successful in all areas of their development.
